CINCINNATI — U.S. Customs and Border Protection Officers seized 50 pounds of cocaine, a street value of $638,000, concealed in shower curtains and posters this past week in Cincinnati.
A narcotics detector dog alerted to two shipments from the Dominican Republic, one labeled “twenty four posters” and the other “drops on canvas”. Officers opened the packages to find shower curtains with large rings and posters with large rings similar to those on the shower curtains.
The posters and shower curtains seemed unusually thick around the rings, and upon further inspection officers found cocaine was embedded between the layers.
Both shipments were mailed from Mexico and destined for to delivery in Worcester, Massachusetts and London, England.
“Smugglers are constantly trying to bring in dangerous and illegal narcotics, but our officers use their extensive training and expertise to recognize and identify unusual concealment in order to protect the American public,” said Cincinnati Port Director Richard Gillespie in a written statement.
